My Week in Review

A lot of things are going on in my sewing life but there is rarely time to blog about it all. So I thought I'd do a quick post about my week in review:

First off, this week I've been experimenting with making knickers. I made two trial knickers out of some leftover jersey. I drafted my own pattern modified from a One-Piece Block I drafted, using the now defunct but still accessible (via the WayBack Machine) site Pattern School. The trial knickers didn't come out too well. They are too big and far too long at the leg opening.

These turned out way too big and super unflattering. Well, it's a learning curve.

I decided to scrap that pattern and trace a pattern of one of the knickers in my closet that fit me. Why so complicated if you can do it the easy way?! So I have a new pattern now and as soon as I get around to it, I will experiment some more. Do you have any tips on knicker making? Websites or pattern you have used?

Next, I started a new crochet cardigan after a lot of testing!

My various test swatches

I am planning to join the German-run Frühlingsjäckchen Knit Along 2014 (i.e. Spring Cardigan Knit Along - also open to crocheters :),  for some motivation and joint cardigan making. The spring cardigan final will be on 20 April, so that will keep me on my toes.

I've also been doing some more reading and studying of my newly acquired book Maßschnitte und Passform: Schnittkonstruktion für Damenmode (meaning, Made-to-Measure Patterns and Fit: Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear) by Guido Hofenbitzer.

This is the second volume to Bekleidung: Schnittkonstrukion für Damenmode (Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear) by the same author, which I praised a lot in a review here on my blog. The second volume is even better than the first. This book is amazing. I've been meaning to share a review with you but haven't had the time yet. Soon, soon.

And finally, I have sewn up the Tiramisu dress from Cake Patterns for the February "A Year in Indie Patterns" challenge. So far I can say I absolutely love the pattern I tested. But more about that later in the month. Photos to come.

Here my Tiramisu is still in a heap!
Hope you had an exciting week of sewing as well! What have you been up to?
