The Stripey Wintery Sweater

Here worn with my self-drafted retro jeans
I made this sweater-top a while ago. I was inspired by the out-of-print Butterick 4230, which Patty from The Snug Bug made up in a beautiful color last year.

To make my sweater I adapted the raglan-sleeve t-shirt pattern from Sew U Home Stretch by Built by Wendy and drafted the collar myself. The fabric is beautiful but was really itchy and slightly see-through so I lined the whole sweater in a white, soft jersey knit.

I really love this sweater but it is so warm that I can rarely wear it, because as soon as I get inside, even in winter, I just feel like ripping it off. I wish I could wear it more often and am thinking about making a more wearable version in a lighter material with a little more stretch so I don't feel so sewn in and bulky.

  1. I love it! Such a pity you don't wear it as much, because it looks great on you!

  2. It's so nice! I'm sure you'll get masses of wear from it when Winter its hard. A lighter version would be wonderful for in the meantime too.. xxx
