My Favourite Crafty Christmas Projects

In the last couple of weeks my blogreader has fed me with numerous wonderful crafty Christmas ideas, particularly in the decorations department. And if I only had the time, or were in need of more Christmas decorations, I'd probably be crafting all day.

I'm so in love with these fun ideas that I thought I'd share my favourite Christmas decorations projects with you. Perhaps you still have an evening of cookie eating and crafting to spare before the holidays start. And, of course, I'm also throwing in some crafty Christmas decorations that are traditional in my family and that I have been doing myself over the years.

First off, I love this Cardboard Gingerbread Man by papernstitch. He would look great on our Christmas tree and he looks so edible :)

I also love making Christmas cards and would make some every year if I only had the time and if I didn't already own too many Christmas cards to ever be able to use. These retro-inspired cards by Jessica Jones from How About Orange are really pretty. This link here has some more great holiday card ideas.

These little Christmas tree tags are also super cute and so simple to make; shared by Kat from KraftyKat on the Crafty Christmas Club Blog.

Then there are these cute needle-felted mitten ornaments with tutorial found on MegaCrafty, although I fail to understand what needle felting is, but I'm sure they can just be cut out of anything felted.

Another super cute Christmas decoration are these fantastic little Cork Reindeers Carolyn showed us on her blog. I have completely fallen in love with them and want to make some for myself.

And of course my favourite Christmas ornament of all times: the Paper Snow Flake.

These cool paper snow flakes made out of junkmail by Michele Made Me have really inspired me to not throw away the toy ads we keep getting in the mail in the run up to Christmas but to recycle them into many, many of these:

It's addictive! Of course, snow flake making can really be turned into an art form as evidenced in these Star Wars-themed snow flakes, this skull snow flake, or these really professional-looking ones (with tutorial!) by How About Orange

In fact, How About Orange has a whole array of cool Christmas paper folding crafts that I would all love to try making for myself, like paper balls, striped spaceship ornaments or this 3D snowflake:

A full list of How About Orange's Christmassy tutorials can be found here. Another fun Christmas paper folding project are these stars, aka German stars:

We tried them ourselves as you can see and it is fun but takes some practice and patience. A tutorial for how to fold them can be found here on the CraftSanity blog or also on youtube. A little easier to make are these festive hearts that are very traditional in Norway and in our family, also known as Julehjerte. We hang them on our tree every year and fill them with chocolate and other sweets.

There are several tutorials for these hearts online, for example here, here or here. And last but not least, who doesn't love baking cookies and decorating them or even better making a gingerbread, "pepperkake" or "Lebkuchen" house.

The results of having friends over for baking :)
However, if you want to take you Christmas baking to a whole new level, check out this mad Gingerbread Brownstone on instructables.com.

This has completely blown me away and, yes, it is entirely made out of Gingerbread! Unfortunately there just isn't enough time to make something this intricate for this Christmas, but, hey, there is always a next Christmas. You just wait and see :)

I hope you enjoyed my little display of my favourite Christmas crafts this year. Do you have any other simple crafty Christmas decorations project to share? I'm always eager to learn more. Please do share!

  2. Hi Stephanie! Wow, thanks for this lovely crafty christmas run-down, it's made me feel all festive!!!

I wanted to say thanks for the comment you left on my blog sharing your thoughts about craft markets. Seems you and I have similar ideas about what we'd like to see. I totally agree, it would be great to show that handmade and 'craft' doesn't have to be the traditional stuff you'd expect. But I'm also happy to include some stalls of the more traditional stuff, as it does appeal to the older crowd, but just make sure that the more traditional stuff is also really good quality, know what I mean?

Anyways, thanks again Stephanie, happy christmas to you!
