MariaDenmark Edith Dress

As you know, I really loved making - and still love wearing - my Edith blouse. It's a super easy project to sew up, so I was itching to try out the dress version as well.

Luckily, soon after I finished my blouse I stumbled upon some gorgeous polka-dot wool crepe fabric in the bargain bin of my local fabric store that just screamed Edith at me. It had John Kaldor printed along the selvedge, which, as the blogosphere has me know, is very desirable fabric. Only I really don't know why. It seems like good quality though and I love irregular polka dots.

Unfortunately, the remnant came in two pieces, each about a meter long. I had a little think and figured out what to do. I simply added a style line across front and back to separate the top and dress into two.

At the last minute I decided to add pockets to the style line, which, to be honest, was not my idea at all but Mr. Starcross's (Quote: "Are there pockets in that seam? That seems like something you would do." - Yes, indeed it does :)

Sadly, because the pockets were more of an afterthought, I forgot to stabilize the pocket opening, and as the opening sits somewhat on a bias grain, it has stretched out a bit. Post-sewing-stabilizing has kept that in check though. So no real worries.

All in all, I'm super happy with this dress and love wearing it, especially as all my colourful tights seem to be ideally suited to be worn with this dress. That's always a bonus point for any garment in my closet.

On a different note, despite hurried pre-Christmas present sewing, I am making slow but steady progress on my Nougat dress. The madly scribbled on, cut up and glued together pattern pieces serve as proof:

How is your Christmas sewing coming alongg? Anyone trying their hand at the Nougat dress? Oh, and can anyone tell me, why John Kaldor fabric is so desirable?
