Review: MariaDenmark Patterns

I finished this pattern at the very beginning of October but just haven't gotten around to posting my photos and review.

I adore this blouse. I think it fits really well, was easy to make, is easy to wear and has swimmers on it with swimming caps and retro bathing suits. How cool is that?

Look! I even meticulously matched
the swimmers at the center front :)

The Edith blouse can be made using only one meter of fabric, so you can really splurge on something pretty and unusual or use up some leftovers from other projects.

Well, now onto more serious matters ;) - my review...

And remember, at the bottom of this post you will find a button, which allows you to add a link to your MariaDenmark review. If you have written and posted a review to your blog, you can add it to the link list. If you don't have a blog, you can also add a link to your project and review on burdastyle or Kollabora or any other project-sharing platform you use.

REVIEW: MariaDenmark Patterns

PATTERN TESTED:

Edith C Blouse & Dress, PDF Pattern, £ 9.57

ABOUT THE PATTERN:

The pattern, as all MariaDenmark patterns, is only available in a PDF format. The instructions and patterns are in one file and the pattern itself has 25 sheets, although not all of them need to printed for the blouse pattern. The pattern includes sizes 34-46. The patterns have no seam allowances

WHAT I LIKED:

DESIGN AND STYLE - I love the simple and clear lines of the MariaDenmark patterns. All of her patterns are very wearable and could be made over and over. No fuss, no huge, expensive fabric amounts to buy, easy to wear.

Yes, only one meter of fabric. Woohoo!

THE PDF PATTERN - The PDF pattern was very easy to assemble. It has dotted lines to show you how to match up your pattern, but the pattern itself extends beyond the dotted lines, which makes matching easy.

C-CUP OPTION - I love that the Edith blouse and dress is available as both a B-cup and C-cup version. And so is the Audrey Knit dress. Hope there will be more patterns like that.

INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS - I thought that the instructions were very clear to follow. The photographs are very helpful. I think photographs are often better than illustrations when trying to make sewing instructions clear. They are a luxury you can only really get with PDF patterns. It would be too expensive and wasteful to print instructions with full colour photographs with printed patterns. Photos are much appreciated.

TUTORIALS AND PHOTOS ON MARIA'S WEBSITE - Maria has a number of really good tutorials with tons of photos on her website. There is a t-shirt fitting series and a trouser fit-n-sew along. There are also lots of photos of Maria wearing her own patterns. I always like to see that because it gives you a good idea of what the patterns look like in real life.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

NO FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS - I seem to go on and on about this and wonder if anybody else cares or if it is just me, but I really appreciate finished garment measurements or alternatively an indication of how much ease was used in a pattern. This way I can determine whether the pattern is going to fit the way I want it to before I buy it, or make adjustments more easily once I have bought it. Of course, you can always measure your pattern but it's nice if I don't have to. Same goes for waist line and bust point markings on patterns. In this pattern it was no struggle at all to locate both, because the pattern has waist and bust darts, but in other patterns these markings do come in handy.

CONCLUSION:

There really isn't much I didn't like about this pattern. I would definitely want to sew up more MariaDenmark patterns. And I already have! More on that, hopefully, next week. So, if you are into easy to wear, simple and clean styles with not too many sheets to print and stick together, these patterns are a good choice.
