Indie Pattern Companies seem to be sprouting up everywhere
at the moment. As soon as I have managed to have a look at a new collection of
Indie patterns on one site, there is already a new company starting up somewhere
else. I can hardly keep up and feel both a little overwhelmed and simply spoiled for choice.
Love the Hazel dress! |
Despite there being so many new independent pattern
companies out there I have still only sewn up patterns from merely a handful of
these companies. Three or four of them at the most. Most of the time I simply
drool over the pattern drawings but can’t seem to find the time to sew up any
of these new, potentially fantastic, patterns.
Ever heard of the "Go anyhwere dress"? It's cute.
Therefore I have set myself a new Sewing Challenge. For one
whole year I want to sew up one pattern from one Indie pattern company per
month. At the end of each month I will post a review to this blog, so that others
may find it easier to navigate their way through what is fast becoming a thick
impenetrable, undergrowth to find Indie patterns that suit their style, sizing
or sewing preferences, and budget.
Would love to find the time sewing a Victoria Blazer by By Hand London too! |
Not only will this challenge inspire us as creative home sewers to try out something new every month, but it also means actively supporting independent sewing pattern companies.
This is how you can join:
- Sew up a pattern from the Indie pattern of the month.
- Post a review of the pattern you used to your blog by the end of the month and send a link to your review to my e-mail address (starcross DOT sewing AT gmail DOT com)
- On the last day of the month I will collect all reviews on this site to make it easier for people to find reviews for the patterns they are looking for.
Have a look at their fantastic new pattern collection on
their website and read all about them in an interview on House of Pinheiro.
So what are you waiting for: Get your patterns, cut and sew!
