June Challenge

As you may have noticed I never partake in any of Zoe's fabulous Me-Made and Self-Stitched challenges. I just cannot be bothered to take photos of myself every single day. That's a chore! Also I feel like I'm already wearing mostly handmade, second-hand and hand-me-downs every day. There's nothing I want to change about this. I don't really shop for clothes anymore except second-hand and underwear, shoes, etc. So I somehow feel it's not really a challenge for me.

However, as intended with the Me-Made/Self-Stitched challenges, I also want to make myself sew more and be a little more productive with my sewing. I often fall into a state of sewing limbo between projects where dreaming about sewing takes precedence over any actual sewing and nothing ever gets done. I'm a very slow sewer and do not live by my self-imposed sewing mantra of Cut fearlessly!. Instead every new sewing project is ushered in by a long period of hemming and hawing over what fabric to choose with which pattern and how to execute it.

Therefore I have set myself my own little sewing challenge for the month of June:

Sew 4 summer dresses in 1 month!

Now for some of you this might not seem like a big challenge, but it is for me. Not only will I have to stop procrastinating and doubting my decisions but I will also fill a gaping hole in my wardobe: summer dresses!

It would be great if any of you want to join me in my challenge. Just leave a comment on this post to let me know. It may be fun to share our experiences and for all you Me-Made-Juners it might give you some more Me-Made-June variety. If you want to join me you can copy and paste the html code below on your blog to display the June Challenge badge:

Five more days to go before the challenge begins. I will keep you updated on my ideas and progress. So long, happy sewing!

  1. Good idea! I was thinking of doing me made June too but just haven't had the time to sew up some staples. However 4 dresses sounds like a great idea and just about doable for me!

  2. I'm in! A friend visited me last Summer for 10 days. She only wanted to bring hand luggage on the plane, so she simply packed 5 simple summer dresses. She looked so cool, and I promised myself to copy her idea this year - I always struggle with finding the right summer clothes, but making 4 simple dresses would be just perfect. Thanks for motivating me to get started!

  3. I'm in! I don't know if I can actually manage 4 dresses in one month, but it would be great if I could!

  4. I would love to join, although I might change it a bit to just be four dresses, if that's okay with you? It's winter here so I don't really need summer dresses at the moment, but I do need some winter ones.

  5. This is just my ticket. I have some staycation time in June. And I too found taking daily photographs a chore. But 4 dresses? I think I can just about manage that. Great idea.

  6. I'm in! I'm new to the blogging community but not to sewing. I need a challenge right now as I'm currently hemming and hawing over fabric and patterns and ... well, you know the rest of this story! Jen.
PS - I don't have a blog yet, but I really enjoy reading all of these wonderful blogs for ideas and tips.

  7. 4 dresses. Hmmm. Well, I'm signed up for Me-Made-June but with less than a week to go I still have almost nothing to wear, so the clothing will have to come from somewhere. OK, I'm in!

  10. I'm in! I know I'm a bit late joining but this sounds like a bit of fun. Winter has just started here so I think I will be making winter dresses instead. I signed up for Me-Made-June and I am lacking in things to wear so what better excuse to do I need to make some dresses.
