Self-Drafted Trousers

I have always wanted to draft and sew my own trousers because there is nothing worse than going shopping for trousers. They are either too tight here and too loose there, too long, too short, not the right style and low-cut, skinny jeans are definitely not my thing either.

So, finally I took the plunge and worked on developing a pants pattern in a style I really like. My first pair is a simple black high-waisted and wide-legged Marlene-inspired pair. I tried to keep it simple with a front zipper, side pockets and belt loops and no other embellishments.

I have come to love these trousers and wear them to work all the time. I'm already having a second similar pair in mind with some slight improvements in fit here and there, especially after I have been following the trouser sew-along that has been going on over at The Cupcake Goddess. I'll try to post again soon. Happy sewing to all of you!

  1. You did a good job with those trousers, they look great on you. I have also drafted a pair of trousers, but after 6 or 7 sets of alterations they still don't really work, so I am impressed that yours work so well.

  7. Great work. We are all so different in our shape below the waist that a good trouser sloper is the starting point for a perfect fit.
