Do You Sew Christmas Presents?

Picture taken from the guardian.co.uk

This is the second year round now that I sew almost all my x-mas presents. I like home-made presents I really do and I certainly prefer sitting at home by my sewing machine over hitting the mad shopping streets. Still, for the last week or so I've been a recluse - no more Christmas markets, no more punch drinking with friends, no winter walks in the snow - because my Christmas presents have to get done! In the countdown to Christmas I start feeling more and more like I'm working in a factory rather than enjoying the Christmas spirit and meeting up with friends and family. I'm already looking forward to after Christmas, when I will have time to sew for myself again. I was even planning to sew a dress to wear for Christmas Eve but since I only have two more days left and none of my presents are finished yet I will have to defer the Christmas dress until next year. But then again, guess what I will be doing in the run up to Christmas next year...

I know it will be worth it in the end. I love giving presents, especially home-made ones. Still, at the moment all I feel is stress. I suppose I could get more organised next year, start sewing sooner, make less demanding projects, but this isn't realistic, is it?

What about you? Do you sew your Christmas presents? Or do you buy presents or give none at all? If you do sew your presents, how do you deal with the pre-Christmas sewing madness? Are you more organised?

  1. Hi Stephanie. I certainly admire you for making Christmas presents - it's something that I would really like to do but didn't get around to it. I think that something sewn with love would be a really nice gift to receive. Hopefully next year I will be organised enough to make some things early enough ..... perhaps I should start now for next year!

  2. Stephanie, this year I made nine aprons, most with matching napkins, to give as Christmas gifts. This is really a first for me, as normally, I sew only a few selected gift items. Based on the reaction of the recipients tomorrow, I may or may not be making more gifts for Christmas 2010. Best wishes to you as you finish yours up!
